Year 5 have been writing Haikus this week.

A Haiku is an ancient form of Japanese Poetry written in three lines – the first line has 5 syllables, the second line has 7 and the third line has 5 again. Here is a selection of some of the ones written in class.

Visit to The Blue John Cavern in Castleton

Year 5 spent an exciting visit exploring a unique mine. Blue John is only found in this part of the world and the children went 100 meters underground to see where it came from. The lime deposit on the surfaces of the walls of the tunnels and caves used to be called ‘Miner’s Snot’ by the miners. The children had a great day even though it was extremely cold!
