IMPORTANT NEWS FOR PARENTS OF PUPILS WHO ARE DUE TO TRANSFER TO SECONDARY SCHOOL IN SEPTEMBER 2017
Parents of children resident in Rotherham who are entering their last year of primary education (those who were born on or between 1st September 2005 and 31st August 2006) should receive a letter from their child’s primary school in July 2016. The letter will set out the Authority’s arrangements for the admission of children into secondary schools in September 2017.
If you wish to receive a copy of the ‘Admission to Secondary School 2017/18’ booklet which contains the admissions policies for all Rotherham’s Secondary Schools please contact the Admissions Team on 01709 823777. The booklet is available to view on-line at www.rotherham.gov.uk/schools where you are also able to submit your application for a school place via the on-line admissions service.
If your child lives in Rotherham you may wish to apply for a Community, Academy, Trust, Catholic High or Church of England High Schools. You can apply on-line at www.rotherham.gov.uk/schools until 11 November 2016, or you can apply by requesting a Common Application Form until 30th November 2016. If you are applying for a place in a school outside Rotherham you are advised to contact that Local Authority for a copy of their ’Admission to Secondary School’ booklet which will outline their admissions policies and procedures although your preferred school(s) should be included on your application to Rotherham.
Rotherham Local Authority co-ordinates its admission to secondary school process with other admission authorities. This will mean that every parent of a child resident in Rotherham who has applied for a school place will receive a single offer of a secondary school place on the same day from Rotherham Authority. Please be aware however that this does not include Private and Independent schools.
Rotherham Authority cannot accept applications directly for children who reside outside Rotherham. These preferences should be made to the child’s home authority.
If you are the parent of a child who will transfer to secondary school in September 2017 and you have not received a letter by Friday 29 July 2016, please contact an Admissions Officer on 01709 823777 and information will be sent to you.
Your child should also be given a booklet at the school which they currently attend in October 2016. The booklet should give details of the secondary school in whose catchment area you reside (or the Catholic High School associated with your child’s present primary school, if appropriate). If you are thinking of applying for a different school you may obtain a copy of a ny school prospectus, free of charge, by contacting the school concerned.
